What Type of Camping Tent is Best For Me
|
Light Weight Camping Tents
If you are a hiker or climber and travel with a back pack you will want the lightest tent possible without giving up quality. You want to be able to make that long hike through the woods, mountains, or to the beach and leave as much energy as you can for the camping fun. Your best bet would be a Pup Tent or a dome tent. They are light, easy to set up, and inexpensive.
Pup tents are designed for one or two people. Dome Tents come in larger sizes and are able to sleep larger groups of people. Because of the shape and tension produced by the curved tent post dome tent are very stable and durable. Dome tents are the most commonly used tents because of their durability.
Heavy Camping Tents
If you are not going to carry your camping tent around in a backpack or move your camping tent around you don’t have to worry as much about the weight and you can go with a larger more luxurious tent. Family Tents come with separated tent compartments for better sleeping and privacy. Yes, it is possible to have privacy in the great outdoors. Or if you have a larger group on your camping trip, the cabin tent is a great way to go. Cabin Tents are made to house a few or large amounts of campers, and are made from heavier materials to stand up better in different climates.
In camping, you want to make sure your tent is rated correctly to the environment it will be used in. In extreme weather conditions with the correctly rated tent you will be safe and comfortable with all your camping gear. A three season tent is good for all environment conditions except extreme cold. A four season tent is specifically made for extreme cold climates.
Camping Tent Materials
When you are picking a camping tent choosing one with the right tent materials is very important. There are several different tent materials available and depending on what climate and time of year you will be tent camping in will help you decide which tent fabric to choose.
Man made tent fabrics like polyethylene are more waterproof but do not breath and are not very flexible. This will make it more difficult to fold your camping tent for storage. Nylon and polyester on the other hand are very durable and more flexible but is not naturally waterproof unless water sealed with a tent treatment. Nylon and polyester are also very light, breath well, and will not rot. Polyester has an added benefit over nylon in that it is more resistant to sunlight “ultraviolet light” damage. This will help your camping tent to last longer when exposed frequently to direct sunlight.
Camping Tent Care
Like any of your other tent camping equipment you want your tent to last as long as possible. Treating your tent with a waterproofing sealer, keeping it out of direct sunlight as much as possible, and drying your tent well before putting it up for storage will help to keep your camping tent in good shape for years to come.
